When i was stopped by a policemen…

Since last few months chain snatching has become quite common in my area. Each and every lane has billboards telling people to be careful and cover their necks etc….

One day i was going to pinks school to drop her.One policemen stopped me and in harsh voice asked me why i wearing so much gold.I was not sure if he is a policemen or not.So i said i saw the billboards. He replied that just under the billboard a women’s 4 tolas of gold has been snatched. He said you go home and keep the gold in the house. To that i said i have to drop my daughter i will go home later and he was still standing i left from there. This happened at 9.00 in the morning.I never thought of asking him his ID card.

Then at 1.00 pm when i was going to pick pinks the same policemen met me at the same place and asked me inspite of him telling me why i am still wearing the gold.I was shocked.Infact i removed all the gold except my mangalsutra. The only difference was i covered by neck with my dupata.Inspite of covering he saw my neck.Same like before i left and he was still standing there.

I was too sacred, called my mother to be with us.She came and stayed with us for few days.

My house is quite close to police station and everyday i pass from there. From that day onwards i was searching for the same policemen who spoke to me just to confirm that he is a genuine police. After a month or so i found the same guy in police uniform in front of the police station. After seeing him i could get proper sleep.I have been thinking that maybe the policeman in is disguise and has been following me.

Since gold has touched Rs.28,000/- for one tola,it has become an easy money for the thieves. In the past few months there has been many chain snatches in my area.So most of the women have opted for imitation jewellery. It so happened that a thief snatched a chain from a women only to realise that it is imitation not gold.He waited for the next day and threw the chain on her and abused her.

How much ever one is smart there will be a person smarter than him/her.Here the thief thought he is smarter and women found other ways…

  1. LOL@The Thief throwing back imitation jewelery on the next day. I think all women in your area should wear this imitation jewelery for sometime so that all the thief’s can go out of business! 🙂

They are out of business now,the sale of imitation jewellery in the stores have increased…

You should actually thank the policeman for his proactive job… And for not asking a ‘cut’ for wearing over-jewelery!! 😛

    Destination Infinity

  2. Well it was indeed a situation I’d worry about, besides the scary times of frequent chain snatching (it happens often in my area too).

I didnt sleep properly for few days,it was like someone is haunting me….

I am glad you are safe and he turned out to be a genuine policeman 😀 😀

Totally agree with your last lines.
    Take care!!

  3. Good thing you found out that the policeman was a genuine one, Sari!

    Imitation jewelry! 😀 😀 I think it’s a great idea!

    Do take care.

Thanks and nice to see you after long. How are you??

  4. Imitation jewellery is a good idea, but we are not used to it, I know. Maybe the policeman was concerned and he has got a job to see that chain snatching doesn’t happen in his area. But I too would have got scared if the policemen questions again and again.

Later i heard that police are doing patrolling in my area even during the date time.I have made a note of their patrolling officer number.

Cover your neck completely with dupatta,Saritha. Take care.

Will do it sandhya and thanks.

  5. Oh my ..
Imitation jewelleyr is good idea but still a risk when snatched , anything can happen..

Yeah even that will cause injury to the neck…

I would say NO to jewellery , I mean even if it is covered by a duppatta or something , that still is a sign that one is hiding something. So still risky .. rather when covered it will make snatchers MORe curious as to what someone is hiding..

    You are right….

so no to jewellery is the best thing, thats what i would do dont know about others ..

No jewellery is good thing, now i hardly wearing anything…

glad to know there is a policeman who is genuinly concerned even if it frightened you earlier, maybe if all policemen do there work with full heart such events will not happen .. There is nothing that cant be stopped IF the police wants .. That is what i think and beleive in

Even patrolling by policemen didn’t stop the theft, its the women who made the thief think twice before snatching the chain as most of them are wearing imitation chains…

    Take care

  6. It is atleast good to know that there seems to be a few concerned policemen – even if he ended up freaking you out! His methods certainly seem a bit over the top!

You take care, and hope this menace goes away soon!

Thanks smitha and the snatching has come down a lot as the thieves came to know about the imitation jewellery…

  7. Good policeman .I would have worried too because in a recent incident two such fake policemen had robbed few women by telling them to remove their jewelery and keeping it in their handbag .I saw this report in one of the hindi news channel.Keep your gold in locker Sari .

The samething happened here kavi so i was scared maybe he is following me and comes to my house etc…..all stupid thoughts used to come in my mind.It was all cleared when i say that policemen at the station.

  8. Oh phew… he’s for real eh? I was beginning to get concerned hearing about that policeman!…
Talk about one inquisitive and concerned guy! 😀

Yeah and i was doubting him….

He waited for the next day and threw the chain on her and abused her.
OMG!! LOL… well serves him right. I’d have thrashed him black and blue. ! 😛 Well, if I got a chance, that is!

Good, here women too should have done that…

  9. Hahaha now that was one smart lady to have fooled the thief 😀

    Yeah smart women…

As for the policeman who stopped you, the concern sure was heartening but like Smits said his way of showing the concern was a bit over the top!

Yeah he was quite rude too and i was doubting him….

  10. Instead of catching the thieves, the stupid policeman is busy abusing people who are wearing gold.

In gulf police first greet us then they will tell us that we have done a mistake and we will be fined. Here they talk so rudely,by seeing a policemen you get scared and when they open their mouth you are scared to death. This how we live here.

This is like our stupid politicians who blame women for wearing revealing clothes as the reason for getting molested.

He was rude but i felt he cautioned me not blaming me…
