Merry Christmas

Brought christmas tree for the first time.It was varunavi who wanted to keep christmas tree and decorate it.Her friends and teacher told her about the christmas tree they have in their homes and about santa Claus. We brought a small tree and she did the decoration.

She is thinking santa Claus  will come from the clouds  and will see her christmas tree from the window and will leave a gift for her and for her sister. She kept the window open for santa claus to see her christmas tree.

From the day she kept the tree, she is looking for the gifts in the house.I brought two gifts and gift wrapped it.They are under my bed now, tomorrow morning I am going to keep those gifts near the tree and will tell her santa claus left the gifts for her and for her sister.

Planning to bake a pink cake tomorrow for the girls. Both are down with viral fever and hope they will be fine tomorrow.

Have a wonderful christmas 🙂

Edited to add:- My girls are fine now. They saw the gifts i kept at the tree and they are thinking santa came from the window and placed the gifts.Full day they are smiling and playing with the toys, now varunavi has got a topic to talk in her class, she will tell her friends and the teacher a story how a invisible santa came and kept gifts for her.

At last i got it right :)

After attempting for 5 times I got it right.Wasted much on that but never felt like leaving it and getting it from the store. When made a disaster, picked one from the store and compared it and pondering where I went wrong.

Browsed net and other means of getting the thing right.Discussed with a friend and asked her advice. At last the research and time spent on it has got the perfect result.

I am talking about the Gulab Jamoons which I got it right in my 5th attempt. They are so colourful, soft and shining and tasty as well.

Another closer shot

Edited to add the recipe:

2 Cups Milk powder

2 tsp Maida (all-purpose flour)

1 tsp Oil

2 Eggs

2 tsp Baking powder

2 Cups Sugar

1 Cup Water

Beat egg and keep aside

Mix milk powder, maida and baking powder.

Slowly add egg into the milk powder and make a dough similar to chapati dough.(Don’t just add the entire egg, slowly with a tablespoon add the egg. After making the dough if still egg is left just leave it,don’t add it to the dough)

When making the dough apply oil to the hand so that the dough doesn’t sticks.

Heat a pan with enough oil for deep frying.Once the oil is hot, minimise the heat.

Make small balls and slowly leave them into the oil one at a time.Fry till the jamoons are light brown in colour.Jamoons should be fried only on a low heat so that inside is cooked well.

In the mean while make sugar syrup.Take a bowl with 1 cup of water and 2 cup of sugar.Let it come to one boil and remove from the stove.

Once they are fried remove jamoons from the oil and transfer them to the sugar syrup.Let it be there for 1/2 hr.

Want to serve hot, serve it with ice-cream.

Happy Tooo Much

Warning:-Boring post.

Few days pinky was playing in the corridor of our apartment,my neighbour son who is of 2 years old came to play with her.Pinky doesn’t know hindi and that boy is a Pakistani and he doesn’t know our language. But he was communicating with her and she is also responding him very well as if both of them knew each other languages. He was riding a tri-cycle and he offered her to ride and she with a big smile on her face went and sat on the tri-cycle and he taught her how to ride it.After sometime she got down and told him to sit and she pushed him and both enjoyed every bit of it.

Then his mother called him inside and took the cycle  inside and pinkuda was inconsolable,I have never seen her crying so much. She said aunty said bye to me and took babu inside,i want babu. Then i promised her that i will buy a cycle for you today. She huged me and said amma happy tooo much.

We went to baby shop to buy the cycle and the moment we entered the store she was in full enthu. We told her choose, she selected the sameones which  that boy was having. After we brought she doesn’t want me to keep that in the car dick as she wanted to keep the cycle with her at the back seat. Some how I made her listen and kept the cycle at the back.

She is not leaving the cycle even for a second.Other than her potty and sleep she is doing everything on the cycle.First day she tried to keep the cycle on her bed.She even takes that to the washroom when she is taking bath and washes her cycle there. She offers that boy her cycle and she rides his cycle.Heights is that she doesn’t allows varu to touch the cycle.More importantly she corrects if I say cycle, she says its her car.

Yesterday varu had sports meet in her school. She was so exicited that she didn’t sleep properly before night.Got up at 5.00 in the morning by herself. It was treat to eyes to see small kids performing.Varu was in fun games and she was the first one to run from her class. Her class didn’t win but she is not ready to accept. She says my teacher told me we won and when i go to school my teacher will give me the prize. When she saw us standing in the stands she was so happy and she was showing her sister to her friends.

These are small joys of life which i would have missed if i was working.Sometimes i think of my education getting wasted sitting at home. But when i think of kids and their smiles i don’t regret about my decision of staying at home. Full day pinky is behind me.When i am cooking in the kitchen she gets her toys and sits behind me plays.Once her sister is back she is behind her.She literally walks behind varu and tries to imitate what ever varu does. This  part is the best part of my life.

Bathukamma Festival

Bathukamma festival is celebrated by women in telangana region of andhra pradesh. This is celebrated in the month of september and october and gets concluded two days before dusheera.

Batuku means live, and Amma means mother, hence Batukamma. Batukamma celebrates the glory of Gauri goddess (meaning fair or white) – the patron Goddess of womanhood. This festival is celebrated by women and girls.Women are draped traditionally silk sarees, wear Jewellery and girls in a two-piece saree called as Langa oni.

The women arrange seven varities of flowers on a plate in a conical shape and call it batukamma.Once the plate is arranged the plate is kept on the ground and all the women form a circle around the bathkamma and they clap hands and sing songs

The legend of Batukamma Panduga (festival) is mentioned in one of the historical texts scripted in Telugu. Centuries ago, King Dharmangada of Chola Dynasty used to rule South India. He was childless for many years after marriage. After performing many pujas and rituals, his wife gave birth to Goddess Lakshmi.

Baby Lakshmi survived many accidents. So, her parents named her Batukamma (Batuku = life, Amma= suffix to female names and mother). Since then, Batukamma festival is celebrated by young girls in Telangana region. The main purpose of this festival is to worship the Goddess in the belief that the young girls would get husbands as per their wish. It is celebrated for nine days beginning from the Padyami (first day) of the month Ashvayuja (September-October).—The info is from wikipedia.

We don’t celebrate this festival but since my childhood i have been seeing my neighbours doing this puja. And me and my sisters along with the other girls and aunties used to sing, clap and make rounds around the plate with flowers.
